MONTREAL — The Brampton Honey Badgers opened their 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season with an 88–66 defeat to the Montreal Alliance on Sunday night at Verdun Auditorium. Montreal’s Quincy Guerrier led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, guiding the Alliance to a commanding victory.
The Alliance set the tone early, dominating the offensive glass and outscoring Brampton by 14 points in the paint by halftime. Brampton’s head coach Sheldon Cassimy acknowledged the need to improve on closing out possessions, citing Montreal’s 11 offensive rebounds as a key factor.
Brampton’s Koby McEwen, the 2024 Canadian Player of the Year, led the team with 15 points. However, the Honey Badgers struggled to find offensive rhythm and were unable to contain Montreal’s momentum in the second half.
The Honey Badgers will look to bounce back on Wednesday, May 21, when they face the Ottawa BlackJacks. Their home opener is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, against the Scarborough Shooting Stars at the CAA Centre in Brampton.
