Brampton, ON — The City of Brampton has officially launched the call for submissions for the 2025 edition of the Brampton Urban Design Awards (BUDA), a prestigious program that celebrates visionary design and architecture shaping one of Canada’s fastest-growing urban centres. This year’s theme, “Density with Purpose,” reflects the city’s evolving approach to urban development—one that prioritizes livability, sustainability, and design excellence amid growing population demands.

Now accepting submissions until Sunday, June 9, 2025, BUDA is open to a broad range of contributors including professional urban designers, architects, landscape architects, artists, city-builders, and post-secondary students. Eligible projects can include everything from innovative residential and commercial builds to public art installations and green spaces that transform the way people live, work, and play in Brampton.

A Legacy of City-Building

Launched over a decade ago, BUDA has grown into one of the most important recognitions of design innovation in the Greater Toronto Area. Past award winners have included transit-oriented developments, mixed-use neighbourhoods, heritage restoration projects, and landmark public facilities that have redefined Brampton’s urban landscape.

Each cycle, entries are evaluated by an expert jury of planners, architects, and civic leaders. Submissions are judged based on a variety of criteria, including architectural design, sustainability, accessibility, innovation, and community benefit.

Students and Community Projects Encouraged

This year, the City is particularly encouraging submissions from emerging designers and students enrolled in architecture, planning, or landscape design programs. BUDA also continues to champion community-led and grassroots initiatives—like public gardens, art interventions, and revitalized parks—that represent people-centred development.

How to Submit

Project submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on June 9, 2025. Full guidelines, eligibility criteria, and digital submission forms are available through the City of Brampton’s official BUDA portal:

An awards ceremony will be held later this year to honour the winning projects and present plaques to recognized teams and individuals.

About the Brampton Urban Design Awards

BUDA was created to elevate public awareness about the role of design in city-building and to honour outstanding contributions in urban development. By recognizing excellence in built form and public space, the awards encourage ongoing dialogue about design quality in a rapidly urbanizing region.
