City of Toronto update on COVID-19

COVID-19 Update

The City of Toronto continues to respond to COVID-19. The Province of Ontario’s state of emergency and stay-at-home order remain in effect for Toronto and across the province. The City urges all people to respect the COVID-19 orders and stay home as much as possible to save lives by reducing opportunities for COVID-19 to spread.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been a total of 89,220 cases of COVID-19 in the city, an increase of 667 new cases today. There are 361 people hospitalized. In total, 70,181 people have recovered from COVID-19. To date, there have been 2,483 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. Toronto Public Health is completing its migration to the provincial information system for case and contact management, the central repository for COVID-19 data in Ontario. Data reporting has been affected as a result of the ongoing migration and impacts to reporting may continue in the coming days. There are 125 cases included in today’s count that are previously reported cases that were not fully migrated during the transition due to anticipated technical issues. The project is expected to be completed by next week with a corresponding return to full reporting. Case status data can be found on the City’s reporting platform at www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-latest-city-of-toronto-news/covid-19-status-of-cases-in-toronto/.

To stop the spread of COVID-19, protect the healthcare system and save lives, it remains imperative all people and businesses comply with provincial orders, City bylaws and public health guidance. The past year has required tremendous sacrifice in Toronto and beyond. The City sincerely appreciates the sacrifice, tireless work and community-mindedness of individuals and businesses that have adapted to comply with orders and bylaws and keep their neighbourhoods safe.

The City continues to remind people to stay at home as much as possible but recognizes the important public health benefits of fresh air and exercising outside. In addition to the more than 1,500 parks and ravines that are safe places for residents to enjoy the outdoors and natural environment during COVID-19, the City has numerous winter options for residents to enjoy on their own or with members of their household that can be explored at http://toronto.ca/welcometowinter. When visiting parks, residents must practise physical distancing and always wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.

Please review the City’s simple “Dos” and “Don’ts” guide for recommended and mandatory public health measures. The guide communicates some of what is and what is not, permitted under the provincial Lockdown Regulation that remains in effect and the new stay-at-home order to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The guide can be found at www.toronto.ca/lockdownguide.
