Common Boots Theatre returns to outdoor winter theatre with Martha Ross’s award-winning THE STORY, presented in association with Soulpepper Theatre as part of their annual Family Festival, December 11-30, 2017 at Christie Pits Park.

With hope and humour, THE STORY imagines the nativity as a parable for modern times. The audience follows three wise men as they navigate a complicated world of existential shepherds, imperial soldiers, charming thieves, a bumbling angel, a deranged tyrant, and a lost choir. They are all in search of a headstrong young woman, and her baby born in a trash heap, hiding out in Christie Pits.

One in four children in Toronto is living in poverty. As the chasm between the rich and the poor continues to grow and the global refugee crisis rages, this serious comedy about a young woman facing poverty and persecution is more timely and compelling than ever.

After five years at Evergreen Brick Works, Common Boots is embarking on a journey to share outdoor winter theatre with different communities and to bring laughter and stories to a new corner of Toronto each year. This year Common Boots brings its annual outdoor winter production to Christie Pits Park at the crossroads of Koreatown, the Annex and Bloorcourt village. One of Toronto’s most vibrant and multicultural neighbourhoods, the community is historically known to be a safe haven for newcomers as they transition to life in Canada.
