CIBC presents Daniel Hogan with cheque to help fund Racing to a Healthy Life (formerly Racing Against Drugs Durham)

On November 12 at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, the DDSB’s Daniel Hogan received a $2,000 cheque from CIBC’s One for Change initiative. One for Change is about celebrating those who donate and volunteer to make their community better. The money will go towards funding this year’s Racing to a Healthy Life (RTAHL, formerly RADD) events.

Hogan is the Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Coordinator at the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and is the Chair of RTAHL. “RTAHL has been supporting youth (Grade 5 students) at both the Durham Catholic and Durham Public School Board for 22 years. We encourage students to make healthy choices regarding substance use, risk-taking, and healthy relationships,” explains Hogan.

During the intermission at the Canada vs. Russia Canadian Hockey League (CHL) game, Hogan was presented with the cheque by Sheri Francis. Francis is a CIBC employee who has been involved in RTAHL for over a decade. Hogan notes, “CIBC has been a generous supporter with volunteers, educational activities, and of course financially as well.”

He adds, “Community partners like CIBC are why RADD and now RTAHL have had such a positive and lasting impact on Durham students.”

The donation will be used to make RTAHL t-shirts, provide food and drinks, and to help offset any other costs associated with running the events.
