The Government of Canada continues to strive to be a true global leader in terms of clean technology by positioning Canada at the leading edge of a changing economy and ensuring that Canadians are able to access the jobs of the future.
The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, visited McGill University in Montréal to highlight that Budget 2017 expands on that commitment by taking action to boost the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector by providing financing that innovative companies need to grow; supporting research, development, demonstration and adoption of clean technologies; and enhancing collaboration and establishing new ways of measuring success.
Budget 2017 also takes important steps to support the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change. Addressing climate change and protecting our environment represent an opportunity to support inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The Minister also announced a $50,000 grant from Natural Resources Canada’s Program for Energy Research and Development (PERD) to help Team Montreal participate in the Solar Decathlon China 2018. During this event, students from McGill and Concordia universities will demonstrate a Canadian high-performance row house that showcases Canadian innovation and products, seeks to raise climate change awareness and offers an affordable, net-zero energy residence for the Canadian market.
