Government of Canada Supports 2020 Halifax North American Indigenous Games

The Government of Canada is providing more than $ 4 million to help Aboriginal youth and athletes reconnect with their traditional culture

DARTMOUTH, NS , August 27, 2019 / CNW / – The Government of Canada recognizes that sport and sporting events play a key role in promoting unity, teamwork, volunteerism and culture. The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) provides exactly these benefits for participating Aboriginal youth.

Darren Fisher, MP for Dartmouth – Cole Harbor , today announced that the Government of Canada will provide more than $ 4 million in support of the Halifax 2020 North American Indigenous Games . Of this amount, Sport Canada will contribute up to $ 3.8 million for the planning and presentation of the NAIG through its Host Program. As for the Economic Development Agency of CanadaAtlantic Canada (ACOA), it will provide $ 500,000 from the Canadian Experiences Fund. Mr. Fisher made the announcement on behalf of the Honorable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, and the Honorable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA .
