TORONTO — The YMCA of Greater Toronto is set to open its newest Centre of Community next month, bringing a modern, inclusive space for health, wellness, and connection to the heart of the King West neighbourhood.

The McDonald Family YMCA, a 48,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, will officially open on Monday, July 15, 2025. Starting today, residents can become Founding Members by signing up ahead of the opening and unlock exclusive benefits.

Located inside the revitalized Waterworks building, the new YMCA aims to be more than just a fitness centre—it’s a hub for youth, newcomers, older adults, and families looking to build healthier lives in a vibrant and growing downtown community.

“Residents are eager for our charity to officially open in such a vibrant neighbourhood,” said Lesley Davidson, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. “This Y will be a cornerstone for community life. We can’t wait to welcome everyone.”

Members will have access to a full range of health and community services, including:

  • A 6,000 sq ft gymnasium with a full-size basketball court

  • A 25-metre aquatic pool for lessons and recreational swimming

  • Two group fitness studios hosting YMCA favourites like Arriba, Bootcamp, MuscleFit, and Yoga

  • A fully equipped fitness centre with cardio and strength training machines

  • Day camps, youth leadership programs, and newcomer services

  • Access to all 12 YMCA fitness locations across the GTA

The new Y is named in honour of Jenifer and Steve McDonald, whose leadership gift helped bring the project to life through the YMCA’s capital campaign. Additional funding was provided by the City of Toronto, reinforcing a strong public-private partnership to bring vital community infrastructure to King West.
