OAKVILLE — This summer, three very special bunnies — Gwendolyn, Charlie, and Nimbus — are looking for their forever homes. As part of PetSmart Charities of Canada® National Adoption Week (July 21–27), the Oakville & Milton Humane Society will be on-site at Oakville Place PetSmart to introduce adoptable rabbits to loving families in the GTA.

With the support of a grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada, the humane society will showcase these cuddly companions on Tuesday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 23 from 12 pm to 5 pm at 240 Leighland Ave, Oakville, offering a unique opportunity for potential adopters to meet rabbits face-to-face.

“When adopters meet pets in person, it helps us create successful matches and opens up space in our shelter for the next animal in need,” said Jeff Vallentin, Executive Director of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. “Events like National Adoption Week help us find loving homes faster and give more animals the second chance they deserve.”

More than 400,000 pets have found homes across Canada thanks to PetSmart’s in-store adoption program, which connects local shelters with communities in need of furry family members.

Meet the Rabbits!

Gwendolyn is a confident and curious bunny who thrives on interaction and greens (especially romaine and parsley). She’ll hop to the front of her enclosure to greet visitors and show off her charming, playful side.

Charlie, the shy sweetheart, is food-motivated and slowly warms up to gentle affection. A calm home where he can build trust will let this quiet bunny flourish.

Nimbus is a bold explorer and snack-lover. With his fluffy coat and wiggly nose, he brings energy, adventure, and affection in equal measure.

Why Adopt a Rabbit?

  • Big personalities: Every rabbit is unique—some are cuddly, others curious and comedic.

  • Strong bonds: Bunnies form deep connections with their humans.

  • Indoor-friendly: They adapt well to apartment living and can be litter-trained.

  • Long-term companions: With proper care, rabbits live 10+ years.

  • Space to play: Rabbits love to “binky” and zoom, needing room to roam safely indoors.

“Our local shelter and rescue partners are overflowing with animals looking for people to love,” said Heidi Marston, Director of Pet Placement at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “There’s nothing like the unconditional love of a pet!”
