TORONTO ― Today, Premier Doug Ford issued the following statement to mark Vaisakhi and Sikh Heritage Month:
“Today, members of Ontario’s Sikh community come together to celebrate Vaisakhi and mark the beginning of the spring harvest. These vibrant festivities reflect the spirit of rebirth, sacrifice and the joy surrounding the harvest and commemorates the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Vaisakhi is one of the holiest occasions of the Sikh calendar. Here in Ontario and around the world, members of the Sikh community will spend time in prayer, visit Gurdwara and share ‘Langar’, or free meals, served at the temples.
April also marks the celebration of Sikh Heritage Month which celebrates the Sikh community that has made our province home for over a century. With over 300,000 Sikhs living here today, their faith is a vibrant part of Ontario, and we are proud of the Sikh community’s contributions to our great province.
On behalf of my family, I want to wish everyone who is observing a peaceful, prosperous and happy Vaisakhi.
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
