Honouring Ontario’s Veterans
SARNIA — Today, Vijay Thanigasalam, Parliamentary Assistant to Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, and Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia—Lambton, gathered at Heritage Park in Sarnia to unveil the highway sign for the new Veterans Parkway.
The Government of Ontario is honouring Sarnia’s veterans by dedicating four kilometres of Highway 40, from Highway 402 to Plank Road, as the new Veterans Parkway.
“I am honoured to have this opportunity to commemorate the bravery of all those who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces for our country,” said Vijay Thanigasalam, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation. “The dedication of the Veterans Parkway serves as a reminder of the sacrifice made for us to continue to enjoy the freedoms of our great country.”
“This dedication will be a reminder for generations to come about the sacrifices that were made for our freedom,” said MPP Bailey. “It’s our duty as Canadians to ensure that we continue to honour our veterans and take the time to appreciate all that they have done for us.”

- Highway dedications are intended to acknowledge individuals and groups who have contributed to the health, welfare and prosperity of Ontarians, and to honour the sacrifice of those who have lost their lives serving the people of Ontario or the nation.
- The Veterans Parkway sign was unveiled at Sarnia’s World War I Memorial Forest in Heritage Park. There are 102 Autumn Blaze maple trees planted there, one tree for each fallen soldier listed (at that time) on the World War I section of the Sarnia Cenotaph.
- Ontario has approximately 715 kilometers of provincial highway dedicated to commemorate fallen soldiers and those who served our country.
