Toronto, ON — On Canada Day, with national pride at a historic high, Dulux Paints is calling on Canadians to help rename the country’s most iconic colour — the red that adorns the maple leaf, Olympic uniforms, and countless symbols of Canadian identity.

That colour, officially designated Federal Identity Program Red (or FIP Red), may be instantly recognizable but is far from inspiring by name. Dulux Paints wants to change that — and they’re putting the power in the hands of the public.

“Canada’s iconic red is bold and inspiring, yet many people would be surprised to know that its official name is Federal Identity Program (FIP) Red,” said Mitsu Dhawan, Brand Manager for Dulux Paints. “As experts in colour and colour naming, we at Dulux propose a name change – one that all Canadians can be proud of.”

The “Rename the Red” Campaign

Starting June 28, Canadians can visit www.dulux.ca/diy/CanadaRed or head to any of the more than 240 Dulux Paints stores across the country to vote for a new name. Suggested options include:

  • True North Red

  • Autumn Maple

  • Lumberjacket Red

The campaign runs until July 19, after which Dulux plans to launch a Change.org petition to formally request a name change with the federal government.

“What better time to help boost our national pride than leading up to Canada Day?” Dhawan added. “Maple syrup has ‘liquid gold’, our dollar has the ‘loonie’, and it is our hope that soon our country’s most famous colour will have a more fitting name.”

Proudly Canadian, Coast to Coast

Dulux Paints employs more than 1,500 Canadians across its store network, manufacturing centres, and distribution hubs. The company manufactures its products in Canada using both domestic and imported materials, staying committed to supporting the national economy.

Whether it’s a coat of paint on a fence or a bold new name for a national symbol, Dulux Paints is inviting Canadians to take part in a colourful act of patriotism.
