Toronto — Seneca Polytechnic has announced a significant three-year, $75,000 commitment to POV Film, a Toronto-based non-profit dedicated to training and empowering aspiring creatives, with a particular focus on equity-deserving groups, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and newcomer and refugee communities.

The new funding, provided through Seneca’s Jane Fund endowment, aims to increase opportunities for young creatives by giving them access to the industry-level resources of the Seneca Film Institute (SFI) and SFI microcredential programs. The partnership will see the two organizations working closely to support these emerging talents, connecting them with professional opportunities and a wider creative community across Toronto.

“We are thrilled to deepen the partnership between POV Film and the Seneca Film Institute,” said Biju Pappachan, Executive Director of POV Film. “Our collaboration is a united effort, developing a unique approach to increase access to tools, relationships, and opportunities that will support diverse creatives succeed within the creative industries.”

In addition to providing resources and microcredentials, the partnership will also host events designed to connect students and emerging creatives with industry professionals, fostering a more inclusive creative network within the Greater Toronto Area. These events will not only support creative development but also ease financial barriers for participants through new bursaries and scholarships.

Kurt Muller, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Art & Design at Seneca Polytechnic, affirmed the institution’s commitment to inclusivity in Canada’s film and screen-based industries, stating, “We share POV’s commitment to building equity and belonging within Canada’s film and screen-based industries and are excited to work more closely together to support diverse talent. Combining the leading expertise of the Seneca Film Institute with the transformative programming of POV will help enable emerging creatives to take their work to the next level.”

This collaboration represents a growing dedication within Toronto’s creative sector to nurture and elevate talent from historically marginalized communities, strengthening pathways for a more diverse and inclusive creative industry.
