The full announcement of the CPI is posted HERE.

Statement by Marc-André Fabien, President, Canadian Paralympic Committee:

“The Canadian Paralympic Committee accepts and supports the decision to re-enter the Russian Paralympic Committee under strict conditions. However, we are disappointed that the Russian Paralympic Committee has not met all the criteria for its reinstatement. Indeed, the IPC had established a comprehensive list of strict and just conditions to be met by the Russian Paralympic Committee for reinstatement. We are now looking at a clean and transparent future, and we hope that all organizations and sports leaders will fight in this direction.

Athletes deserve to compete on a fair, safe and clean playing field. Cheating has no place in Paralympic sport, and we will continue to be vigilant and strong advocates for a clean sport for our athletes, coaches and community.

We are grateful for the hard work on the part of the IPC Board and Committee. “

Statement by Tony Walby , Chair of the Canadian Paralympic Committee Athletes Council, Paralympic Athlete

“We respect the IPC’s decision to take a radical stance on clean sport. We are, however, disappointed to see Russia reinstated without fulfilling all the criteria. As athletes, we have to follow very strict rules, and this should apply to the national governing bodies of sport. We believe that all athletes competing at the Paralympic Games deserve a fair and clean playing field. Unfortunately, it is a decision that shakes athletes and their sport. “
