SEA ISLAND, Ga.Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — In the 21st annual Hotze Cup, players slugged it out Sunday under partly cloudy Georgia skies in a tight match at the Seaside course at one of the world’s preeminent resorts, The Lodge at Sea Island.  After securing a day one lead of seven matches to three, Team Rick halved the final 20 matches remaining to claim victory and retain the cup for Team Rick 17 to 13 points.

The 21st annual match, conducted by a pair of Houstonian political mavens, business leaders and brothers, Rick and Steven Hotze, showcased premier local and international talent in the annual Ryder Cup-format match.  Having defeated Team Steven for the second year in a row, Team Rick now only trails in the long-running series with 10 to Team Steven’s 11 wins.  The yearly tournament was contested on Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside and Plantation Courses for the tenth time in tournament history. The event consisted of 36 holes of alternating-shot, four-ball and individual matches between two teams of 10 men each.

“The lineup for Team Rick changed only slightly since last year with rookies Dan PeralesJesse Pierce, Mat Guinn and Alex Hotze contributing five points and one-half points while substituting for such perennial players as Doug WrinkleMike Hartman and John Sullivan.  With the lack of experience in this format, we questioned whether we would out-fox the wryly and perseverant Team Steven veterans.  It was too close in my view, but I am elated that we won!” said Team Captain Rick Hotze.

Both team captains are considering new qualifiers for the 2018 Cup to be held at the same venue in late spring.

Returning players for Team Rick included team co-captains, John Braniff and Phil DittoWalter Beardand Tom Ross.

International players dotted the field this year, including Jerry Sarvadi of East Lothian, Scotland, Doug Douset of Ingonish (Cape Britain/Nova Scotia, Canada) and Adrian Garcia-Pons of Monterrey (Nuevo Leon, Mexico).
