Toronto — The City of Toronto is renaming a green space in the Lawrence Park Ravine in honour of the late Councillor Jaye Robinson, whose career in public service left a lasting mark on the city’s parkland and civic life. The newly named Jaye Robinson Park, a 2.5-hectare site located near 3055 Yonge Street just south of Lawrence Avenue East, will be officially unveiled during a ceremony on Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m.
City officials, community members, and the Robinson family will gather at the site to celebrate the late councillor’s legacy. Mayor Olivia Chow and Councillors Rachel Chernos Lin (Don Valley West) and James Pasternak (York Centre) will deliver remarks, with a photo opportunity to follow the sign unveiling.
The site selection was made in consultation with Robinson’s family and reflects her deep connection to the Don Valley West area—a ward with more than 70 parks and one of Toronto’s most vibrant tree canopies. Known for her dedication to parks, trees, and public spaces, Robinson championed the expansion of Toronto’s urban green infrastructure and revitalization projects during her time in office.
Robinson, who passed away in May 2024, first entered municipal government as a staff member with the former City of North York. After amalgamation, she continued working with the new City of Toronto before being elected as the City Councillor for Don Valley West in 2010. Her two decades of public service are remembered not only for policy impact but also for her belief in parks as vital community hubs.
“Parks were not just green spaces to Jaye—they were places of connection, celebration, and community,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “I am honoured to support the renaming of this park as an important symbol of Jaye Robinson’s legacy and her commitment to public service.”
“Jaye was a visionary leader and a strong voice for the communities she represented,” added Councillor Rachel Chernos Lin. “With a prominent frontage on Yonge Street, this park is a fitting tribute to her remarkable contributions.”
The renaming reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to recognizing leaders who have shaped Toronto’s communities and helped preserve its green spaces for future generations.
