Mississauga — A bright young mind from Toronto is making waves on the international stage. Arushi Nath, a student at Bloor Collegiate Institute, has earned the Third Award in Physics and Astronomy at the prestigious Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025 in Columbus, Ohio.

Arushi was recognized for her innovative project titled NEPTUNE: N-body Exoplanet Prediction Using TTV for Unseen Exoplanets, a physics and astronomy study that uses transit timing variations (TTV) to help predict exoplanets not yet directly observed.

Her project was part of Team Canada’s showing at ISEF 2025, which ran from May 10 to 16, and brought together more than 1,600 of the world’s most promising young scientists from over 80 countries. Team Canada captured three Grand Awards, all at the Third Award level — with Arushi’s work among them.

“These achievements underscore the vital importance of STEM education and project-based learning,” said Dr. Marc Roussel, chair of the Team Canada-ISEF selection panel. “These students exemplify the innovative thinking we need for the future.”

The awards carry a prize of $1,200 USD each and reflect global recognition of Canada’s youth STEM ecosystem. Team Canada’s other winning projects came from students in Vancouver who explored sustainable saponin surfactants and wastewater treatment powered by biological photovoltaics.

“Their success on this international stage highlights the exceptional quality of youth STEM projects in Canada,” said Reni Barlow, executive director at Youth Science Canada. “We’re incredibly proud of Team Canada and Arushi’s contribution in particular.”

The Team Canada-ISEF program is supported through Youth Science Canada’s Youth Can Innovate initiative, funded by the Gwyn Morgan and Patricia Trottier Foundation.
