TORONTODec. 19, 2018 /CNW/ – The International Edition of The Guardian Newspaper has published a list of ten “cool shopping districts” from around the world where “the magic is strong”. Toronto’sDistillery District is the only Canadian location to make the list and one of only two in North America.

“What a great honour for us all to be recognized to be in the company of districts in St. PetersburgParisHamburg and Copenhagen,” notes Diana Olsen, owner of Balzacs Coffee Roasters. “I’ve always believed that what makes the Distillery District so special is that it combines a very romantic and nostalgic ‘old world’ atmosphere via cobblestone streets and narrow alleyways, with a decidedly modern and edgy cultural, retail and food experience.   The juxtaposition of old and new keeps it vibrant and exciting for a wide audience of local and international visitors.”

The Distillery, a Canadian National Historic Site, is a centre for arts culture and entertainment, home to many independent and acclaimed retailers such as Gotsyle Clothing, John Fluevog Shoes, Soma Chocolates, Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, Bergo Designs. It attracts millions of visitors each year for its small-town charm and collection of best in class retail boutiques, restaurants, distillery, theatre and galleries. The Distillery’s concept of not settling for chain store retailers, has allowed it to create a community that is loved by locals and appreciated the world over.
