Ottawa, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke today following Ford’s re-election, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to protecting Canadian interests and strengthening the Canada-U.S. relationship.
In a statement, Trudeau congratulated Ford on securing another term and praised his commitment to a “Team Canada” approach when dealing with cross-border trade. The two leaders discussed the ongoing challenge of U.S. tariffs, particularly on aluminum and steel, and pledged to continue working together to prevent their imposition.
Both Trudeau and Ford emphasized the importance of a strong and united response should new tariffs be introduced, underscoring the impact such measures could have on Ontario’s economy.
Beyond trade, the Prime Minister and Premier agreed to maintain collaboration on other key issues affecting both Ontarians and Canadians.
Ford’s re-election ensures continuity in Ontario’s leadership at a time when economic concerns, trade policies, and cross-border relations remain significant topics for both provincial and federal governments.
GTA Weekly will continue to monitor developments as Trudeau and Ford navigate these shared priorities.
