Vacancy for Office of Councillor in City of Toronto’s Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale to be filled by appointment

Toronto City Council decided yesterday that the vacant office of Councillor Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale will be filled by appointment. This appointment will fill the position until the end of the current term of City Council, November 30, 2018.

To be considered for this position, the candidates must be: 
• a Canadian citizen
• 18 years of age or older
• a resident of the City of Toronto, or own or rent property in the City of Toronto (or be the spouse of the owner or renter)
• not legally prohibited from voting, or from holding municipal office.

An information session will be held on Tuesday, October 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., for anyone interested in being considered for the appointment. 

Interested individuals must complete Declaration of Qualification and Consent of Nominee forms and provide identification showing name, signature and qualifying address within the City of Toronto. Forms will be available at the information session, online at http://www.toronto.ca/ward28vacancy and in person at the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter, City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., in the west side of the rotunda. 

The deadline for filing an application is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 23 at the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter, City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., in the west side of the rotunda. The forms must be signed in person before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits. All forms and documents submitted by the applicant are a matter of public record and will be made available to the public including the media.

City Council will meet on Thursday, November 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen St. W., to hear from applicants, ask questions of applicants and vote to appoint a person to fill the vacancy.
