PARIS — Victoria Mboko, the 18-year-old tennis prodigy from Toronto, continues her remarkable 2025 season by advancing to the second round of the French Open qualifying tournament. On Tuesday, Mboko secured a straight-sets victory over Austria’s Sinja Kraus, 6-4, 6-2, at Roland-Garros. She will next face Kathinka von Deichmann of Liechtenstein on Thursday.

Mboko’s performance was highlighted by five aces and a 79% success rate on first-serve points. She converted five of seven break-point opportunities and had break-point chances in six of her nine return games.

This victory improves Mboko’s season record to 38-5, with most of her wins coming on the ITF World Tennis Tour circuit. Earlier this year, she claimed five ITF titles and reached the final of the WTA 125 Parma Ladies Open.

Mboko’s ascent in the tennis world has been rapid. She began the year ranked outside the top 300 and has climbed to a career-high No. 122 in the WTA rankings as of May 20, 2025.

In addition to her singles success, Mboko made her debut for Team Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers in April, contributing to Canada’s victories over Romania and Japan.

As Mboko continues her quest for a spot in the main draw at Roland-Garros, Canadian tennis fans have much to be excited about. Her next match against von Deichmann will be a critical step toward her first Grand Slam main draw appearance.
