The voting stage of the 2017 Participatory Budgeting (PB) pilot project begins December 2 and runs through December 14. Residents in Ward 33 and the neighbourhoods of Oakridge (Ward 35) and Rustic (Ward 12) can vote for local projects to be built by the City of Toronto. Up to $250,000 will be allocated for capital projects on City-owned property in each of the three areas.
Residents in the pilot neighbourhoods shared hundreds of ideas at community meetings and online, and met again in October to select infrastructure projects to appear on the ballots. Winning projects selected in the 2015 and 2016 voting have been built or are in the planning stage, and include park improvements, neighbourhood beautification, pedestrian safety enhancements and measures to increase accessibility.
The City encourages residents 14 years of age or older who live in the pilot areas to help choose the proposals that will receive funding by casting their votes at the times and locations listed below. A community celebration will follow after the vote count on the final day of voting in each neighbourhood.
