Johannesburg, South Africa — Australia, Canada, and India have announced a new trilateral initiative aimed at deepening collaboration on cutting-edge technologies, clean energy innovation, and secure supply chains. The Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership was unveiled Saturday as leaders gathered on the margins of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

According to the joint statement released by all three governments, the ACITI Partnership will build on each country’s natural strengths and expand their shared ambition in critical and emerging technologies. The initiative is designed to complement existing bilateral programs while creating a coordinated framework for long-term cooperation.

A Trilateral Framework for Clean Energy and Resilient Supply Chains

A central component of the ACITI Partnership is a focus on green energy innovation and the development of secure, diversified supply chains, particularly in critical minerals—a sector increasingly essential to global manufacturing and clean-tech development. The three governments emphasized that the partnership will support their joint efforts toward achieving net-zero emissions while strengthening economic resilience.

Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies

Beyond clean energy, the ACITI Partnership will explore coordinated approaches to artificial intelligence development and deployment. The governments highlighted AI’s potential to improve public services, economic competitiveness, and quality of life, stressing the importance of ensuring safe and responsible adoption.

Next Steps: Officials to Meet in Early 2026

To advance the initiative, officials from Australia, Canada, and India will convene during the first quarter of 2026. That meeting will outline early priorities, establish working groups, and set timelines for delivering tangible outcomes across the partnership’s technology, research, and innovation streams.

The launch of the ACITI Partnership marks a significant step in the growing Indo-Pacific cooperation landscape and aligns with Canada’s broader effort to diversify global partnerships and strengthen technological leadership.
