TORONTO, March 21, 2018 /CNW/ – Afroglobal Television (AFRO TV) is a 24-hour channel that informs, empowers, uplifts and entertains with the best of Africa and the Diaspora, including Canadian success stories. Based in Toronto, it advances the aspirations of people of African descent. The channel officially launched on Eastlink Channel 886 on March 8.

“We are grateful to Eastlink for making AFRO TV available in the TV Channel Exchange, Music and More theme package, and for subscription as a standalone,” says Moses A. Mawa, President & CEO, Afroglobal and Silvertrust Media.

“Consumers have a broad range of viewing interests and we work hard to ensure our channel lineup delivers to that,” says Lee Bragg, CEO of Eastlink. “The addition of Afroglobal to our lineup provides our customers with more choice and options to enrich their viewing experience.”

AFRO TV presents two movies daily, music, biographies, documentaries, talk shows, drama, sports, reality, faith, current affairs, children’s programming and others that showcase the rich heritage of Africa, the Caribbean, Canada and more.

“African Canadians have contributed to the development of the Maritimes for over 400 years. Despite these contributions, it has been rare to see positive stories featuring members of the community,” says African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Tony Ince.

Afroglobal will broadcast documentaries, current affairs and biographies from Atlantic Canada, including town hall events. “Through Afroglobal Television, we have the opportunity to see our compelling stories told in a way that is informative and affirming,” says Minister Ince.

“With twelve original programs, AFRO TV is a Canadian channel with community, national and global appeal. It is also on Rogers Cable Channel 708 and Bell Fibe Channel 2472. As a part of its UN International Decade for People of African Descent plans, Afroglobal aims to expand throughout Canada, the US, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and beyond,” says Mr. Mawa.
