Appointments still available for Toronto Kids Vaccine Day as Team Toronto works to provide equitable access and welcomes walk-ins

Team Toronto Kids helps more than 10 per cent of five- to 11-year-olds in Toronto receive their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Toronto Kids Vaccine Day, the one-day-only superhero-themed vaccination event at Scotiabank Arena is taking place this Sunday, December 12, featuring fun activities, entertainment, ticket and toy giveaways and special Toronto mascot and PAW Patrol visitors! There are still appointments available for five- to 11-year-olds to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as part of the event.

In addition to appointments available through the Province of Ontario’s booking system, Team Toronto is working with its COVID-19 Vaccine Engagement Teams and its community ambassadors across the city to bring children from priority neighbourhoods and equity-deserving communities to Toronto Kids Vaccine Day. More than 300 people will be transported from across the city to Scotiabank Arena this Sunday to join in the fun and receive a COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves, their schools and communities.

Team Toronto Kids will also be allowing walk-in vaccinations for 5- to 11-year-olds starting at 1 p.m. and running until 6 p.m. Children and caregivers arriving at Scotiabank Arena for walk-in appointments tomorrow afternoon can enter through Gate 1.

All aspects of Toronto Kids Vaccine Day are aimed at making young people and caregivers feel safe and relaxed as they get their COVID-19 vaccine. The event will feature kid-friendly branding, activities and entertainment. Thanks to generous partners, there will be Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors jersey and ticket giveaways throughout the day. Other giveaways will include grocery gift cards and PAW Patrol stickers, activity sheets and toys.

Team Toronto is deploying Toronto Public Health and The Hospital for Sick Children’s (SickKids) doctors and nurses who are experts in speaking with children and caregivers about vaccines as well as providing child-friendly experiences for vaccination. Toronto Kids Vaccine Day is also fully accessible with elevators and accessible aftercare areas. There will also be support dogs on site to help children and families feel comfortable.

In recognition of the thousands of young public-health superheroes heading to Scotiabank Arena for Toronto Kids Vaccine Day and the efforts of Team Toronto, Mayor John Tory has declared Sunday, December 12 as Toronto Kids Vaccine Day in the city. The Toronto Sign, including the new COVID-19 vaccination bandage, will be lit pink in celebration of the special day.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to book appointments as soon as possible to get the city’s youngest community health superheroes vaccinated against COVID-19. Appointments can easily be made by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900 or through the Province of Ontario’s How to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment webpage: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.
