Brampton Steelheads Name Monet Chun and Joey Savoie as Team Ambassadors

Canadian golf standouts join the Steelheads in a new partnership focused on community engagement and inspiring young athletes

BRAMPTON – The Brampton Steelheads are expanding their reach beyond the rink, announcing Canadian golfers Monet Chun and Joey Savoie as official ambassadors for the Ontario Hockey League club.

The partnership brings together two accomplished golfers with a hockey organization that continues to strengthen its presence in Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area through community initiatives, fan engagement, and youth outreach. According to the Steelheads, both athletes will participate in appearances, social media activations, and special events throughout the season.

Building Connections Beyond Hockey

The initiative reflects the Steelheads’ ongoing effort to align the franchise with Canadian athletes who share similar values around professionalism, hard work, and community involvement.

“We are thrilled to welcome Monet and Joey to the Steelheads family,” said Brampton Steelheads President and Owner Elliott Kerr in a statement released by the club. “Both are tremendous representatives of their sport and embody the values that are important to our organization, hard work, professionalism, community involvement, and inspiring young athletes. Their passion and energy make them a perfect fit for our club.”

The partnership also creates an interesting crossover between hockey and golf — two sports with growing youth participation across Ontario.

Monet Chun Continues to Rise

Richmond Hill native Monet Chun has emerged as one of Canada’s top young golfers in recent years. Chun captured the 2022 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship and gained international attention after competing at Augusta National Women’s Amateur, one of the most prestigious events in women’s amateur golf.

Chun said she looks forward to deepening her relationship with the organization.

“I’m excited to continue my relationship with the Steelheads organization and officially become an ambassador for the club,” Chun said. “The organization has built something special in the community and I’m looking forward to being part of it and connecting with fans throughout the season.”

Joey Savoie Bringing International Momentum

Joining Chun is Quebec golfer Joey Savoie, who recently added another milestone to his career by winning the KIA Open de Ecuador presentado por Diners Club on May 24. Savoie forced a playoff with a birdie on the 72nd hole before capturing the title with another clutch birdie on the third playoff hole.

“Representing such a fine hockey organization led by a man I fully respect is an honor to me,” Savoie said. “I always wanted to represent a hockey team, and having the Steelheads logo while I travel the World is a privilege!”

A Broader Vision for the Steelheads

The ambassador announcement signals the Steelheads’ continued push to establish themselves as more than just a junior hockey franchise. By partnering with recognizable Canadian athletes outside of hockey, the organization is strengthening its brand visibility while promoting a broader message around sports culture and youth development in Canada.
