Neilan Johnson Brampton Steelheads agreement strengthens organizational depth in goal
BRAMPTON, ON — The Brampton Steelheads have added another piece to their future roster, announcing the signing of goaltender Neilan Johnson to an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Johnson was selected by the Steelheads in the third round, 51st overall, of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, becoming the first goaltender chosen by the organization in this year’s draft.
The Severna Park, Maryland native arrives in Brampton following a standout season with Hotchkiss School in the USHS-Prep league. The 6-foot-3, 181-pound netminder posted a 1.63 goals-against average and an impressive .944 save percentage across 26 appearances, establishing himself as one of the top goaltending prospects available in the 2026 draft class.
Johnson was the fifth goaltender selected in the Priority Selection and is expected to add size, athleticism, and long-term potential to the Steelheads’ development pipeline.

Steelheads Excited About Johnson’s Potential
Brampton Director of Goaltending David Shantz praised Johnson’s skill set and character following the signing announcement.
“Neilan is a big, athletic goalie who has the ability to be a difference maker for our organization,” said Shantz. “His maturity and leadership, coupled with his existing technical foundation will serve him well as he transitions to the OHL. As an organization we are excited to have Neilan as part of our team.”
Building for the Future
The signing represents another step in the Steelheads’ efforts to strengthen their prospect pool following the 2026 OHL Priority Selection. By securing Johnson’s commitment, the organization adds a highly regarded young goaltender who has already demonstrated strong performance at the prep-school level.
As he begins his transition to major junior hockey, Johnson will look to continue his development within the Steelheads system and compete for future opportunities between the pipes.
The Steelheads continue preparations for the 2026-27 OHL season, with training camp and additional roster announcements expected in the coming months.
