A landmark year for Victoria Mboko
Victoria Mboko’s 2025 season has been a defining chapter in her young career, highlighted by two major titles months apart:
- 2025 National Bank Open (August)
Mboko captured her first WTA 1000 title, defeating Naomi Osaka in the final and overcoming four former Grand Slam champions during her run — a historic achievement for a Canadian woman. - 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Open (November)
Earlier this month, she added a WTA 250 title to her résumé, outlasting Cristina Bucșa in a three-set final (7-5, 6-7(9), 6-2).
These victories, combined with consistent performances throughout the season, have propelled Mboko to Canada’s No. 1 female singles ranking and established her as one of the fastest-rising players on the WTA Tour.
Burlington celebrates its hometown star
Mayor Meed Ward praised Mboko’s exceptional year in her announcement, noting the pride she brings to the community:
“Victoria has risen rapidly through the tennis world, making national and international headlines,” she wrote. “This is our chance to celebrate her incredible achievements and show how Burlington supports its rising stars.”
The ceremony will give residents a chance to recognize her accomplishments and offer support as she prepares for an even bigger 2026 season.
Inspiring a generation
Mboko’s success has resonated beyond Burlington, inspiring young Canadian athletes and drawing international attention to the depth of Canadian tennis talent. Her poise, athleticism, and competitiveness at just 18 years old have made her a standout figure on tour — and a potential future Grand Slam contender.
