Toronto, ON – Thirty-five of Canada’s brightest young scientists and innovators are preparing to take their work to the global stage. This weekend, the group will travel to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the MILSET Expo-Sciences International (ESI) 2025, being held in Abu Dhabi from September 29 to October 1.
The Canadian delegation, coordinated by Youth Science Canada, includes students from Ontario (16), British Columbia (6), Alberta (4), Nova Scotia (4), Quebec (4), and Prince Edward Island (1). Each earned their spot through outstanding performances at regional science fairs and the national Canada-Wide Science Fair. Their projects span a wide range of scientific fields, reflecting both curiosity and innovation in Canada’s next generation of STEM leaders.
The students will join more than 1,000 peers from 45 countries to present projects, participate in workshops, and connect through a week-long exchange of ideas and cultures.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our students to connect with their peers from around the globe who share their curiosity and passion for discovery,” said Reni Barlow, executive director of Youth Science Canada, who will accompany the delegation. “Participating in MILSET ESI provides our students with a life-changing experience that extends far beyond their projects.”
The event, organized by MILSET (International Movement for Leisure Activities in Science and Technology), creates a unique environment where youth from diverse backgrounds can explore how science and technology bridge cultural divides. Canadian participants will not only present their projects but also engage in hands-on activities, explore Abu Dhabi’s culture, and strengthen international networks.
Youth Science Canada has been a member of MILSET since 2007, providing Canadian students with opportunities to share their work on the international stage. Past delegations have returned with a deeper appreciation of how science and innovation connect youth worldwide.
“What makes these international experiences so special is watching our students light up when they meet peers from other countries who are just as excited about science as they are,” added Barlow.
