Starting Monday, May 2, candidates and third party advertisers for Toronto’s 2022 municipal election can file their nomination or registration at the new Toronto Elections City Hall office. Election Day is Monday, October 24.
Until August 19, Toronto Elections will receive nominations for the offices of:
• Trustee for the Toronto District School Board
• Trustee for the Toronto Catholic District School Board
• Trustee for the Conseil scolaire Viamonde
• Trustee for the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir
To run for the office of Mayor, Councillor or School Board Trustee, candidates must:
• File a nomination paper with original signature
• Provide proof of qualifying address within the city of Toronto or the school board jurisdiction
• Pay the appropriate nomination filing fee
• Provide at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Toronto voters with original signatures, if running for the office of Mayor or Councillor
Until a nomination is filed, a person cannot raise or spend any money on their campaign.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to book a timeslot to file their nomination through the new online appointment booking system. Having a pre-booked appointment will ensure quick service, minimize wait times and reduce crowding.
Nominations can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office, 100 Queen St. W., now in a new location on the first floor – just inside the main entrance. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday, May 2 to Thursday, August 18 (excluding statutory holidays) and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 19.

Third party advertiser registration
Between Monday, May 2 and Friday, October 21, individuals, corporations and trade unions who plan to spend money to promote, support or oppose a candidate in the Toronto municipal election must register as a third party advertiser.
People are strongly encouraged to use the new appointment booking system to schedule a time to register as a third party advertiser. The Notice of Registration can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office. Registrations can be filed Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from May 2 to October 21 (excluding statutory holidays).
The City Clerk must certify the registration before a third party advertiser can spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising. Registered third party advertisers must identify themselves on advertisements and comply with requirements under the Municipal Elections Act.

Directions for media
Members of the media interested in filming the first day of candidate nominations and third party advertiser registrations may check in with City of Toronto media relations staff inside the Rotunda and will be shown to the designated media area in the Toronto Elections City Hall office. Scrums can take place in an anti-chamber of the office. Camera set up is 8 a.m.
Visitors to City Hall, including members of the media, who do not possess a City issued access card must go through the security screening procedure prior to entering the Toronto Elections office.
