OTTAWA, ON — Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement today celebrating National Acadian Day, recognizing the enduring courage and resilience of Acadians and their role in shaping Canada’s identity.

In his message, Carney praised the Acadian people for defending their language, culture, and identity for centuries, noting their influence from Caraquet to Chéticamp, from Bonaventure to Tignish.


Federal Support for Acadian Heritage

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting Acadian heritage through:

  • Investments in Acadian cultural celebrations

  • Support for Francophone students in minority settings

  • Assistance to Francophone entrepreneurs in Acadian and other minority Francophone communities across Canada and abroad


A Vision of Inclusion

Carney said these initiatives reflect his government’s ambition to build “a Canada that is inclusive and proud of the rich traditions of one of the oldest francophone communities in North America.”


National Acadian Day

Observed annually on August 15, National Acadian Day celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of the Acadian people, whose presence in North America dates back over four centuries. The day is marked by festivals, concerts, and cultural events in Acadian communities across the country.
