Mark Carney is about to announce his new cabinet.
It will be his first big reveal as Prime Minister.
Yet for many Canadians — especially those here in the GTA — the excitement has already worn off.
Why?
Because the country isn’t waiting for Ottawa to get organized.
It’s already in crisis.
Last month alone, over 30,000 jobs vanished. That pushed the unemployment rate to 6.9%, the highest in more than a year.
At the same time, the latest round of U.S. tariffs is landing hard on Canadian exports.
And while Parliament prepares for photo ops, communities in Brampton, Scarborough, Vaughan, and Mississauga are bracing for layoffs, higher grocery bills, and shrinking paycheques.
The Cabinet Will Be Judged on Day One
Carney has promised a bold, crisis-ready team.
But Canadians won’t be judging them by résumés.
They’ll be judging them by results.
Will his finance and trade ministers move quickly to confront U.S. tariffs?
Can the housing minister deliver an aggressive plan to ease the crushing cost of living in the GTA?
Will the government act like it understands that the economic emergency isn’t months away — it’s already here?
The GTA Has No Patience for Delay
Voters across the GTA helped hand Carney his victory.
But now, those same voters are watching with sharper eyes — and less patience.
They expect a cabinet that will hit the ground running, not spend weeks caught in bureaucratic gridlock.
There’s no margin for error.
The Liberals may have won the election, but this cabinet’s performance will decide how long that victory lasts.
Canadians — especially those in the GTA — aren’t waiting for tomorrow’s headlines.
They want action today.
