Celebrate Seniors’ Month in Mississauga

June is Seniors’ Month across Ontario and Mississauga is ready to celebrate! There are a wide variety of planned activities and programs for seniors looking to add spark and joy to their routines. There are also programs to help seniors stay informed and up-to-date on relevant issues they may be interested in.

Here are some of the many planned activities in honour of Seniors’ Month:

Sauga Connections for Older Adults – Virtual, Every weekday

Join us each weekday for free virtual programs for those ages 55 or older. Programs include virtual fitness classes, hot topics, and coffee talks. Be ready for anything and enjoy the spontaneity of these sessions!

Acrylic Floral Painting – Lorne Park Library, Wednesday, June 14, 10 a.m.

Does the beauty of flowers mesmerize you? Paint beautiful bold flowers with acrylic to create an original canvas painting. Admittance on the day of the activity is first come-first served so show up on time and join the class!

Chamber Music Performances – Streetsville Library, Tuesday, June 27 at 11 a.m.; Sheridan Library, Friday, June 30 at 10 a.m.

Join us for a musical performance celebrating Seniors’ Month with pianist Christopher Bagan, cellist Daniel Hamin Go, and flutist Terry Lim.

Laws Affecting Older Adults – Churchill Meadows Library, Tuesday, June 13, 2 p.m.

Are you curious to learn more about laws that may matter to you in a few years from now? Learn about the importance of powers of attorney, the rights and responsibilities of older adults and those who care for them under Ontario law, and remedies for financial abuse of older adults.

Celebrations Around the World – Virtual, Tuesday, June 13, 7 p.m.

Do you feel like travelling to different continents, but don’t have the time or budget? Join us on a virtual journey through Africa, North and South America, Asia, and Europe to look at ancient and timeless objects and traditions that we associate with celebration.

Bingo – Mississauga Seniors’ Centre, Friday, June 9, 12:45 p.m.

Join us for Friday bingo at the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre. This is a drop-in program and admittance on the day is first come-first served. Good luck!

Leading and learning with Pride: How the City of Toronto is Advancing Care and Services for 2SLGBTQI+ Seniors – Virtual, Thursday, June 29, 11 a.m.

Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and other gender and sexually-diverse seniors (2SLGBTQI+) have endured decades of discrimination and navigate unique challenges as they age. This session will provide an overview of the Leading & Learning with Pride Tool Kit, with a focus on: the unique needs of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors, how to use the tool kit to enhance support for 2SGLGBTQI+ seniors, the importance of community partnership to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in seniors care and services.
