TORONTO – The 34th annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure united more than 60,000 participants and volunteers at over 50 Run sites nationwide on October 5, raising an inspiring $18 million in support of breast cancer research, advocacy, and compassionate care.
Of the total raised, Team CIBC—comprising 14,135 employees, clients, and community members—contributed an impressive $3.1 million, marking another milestone in the bank’s 29-year partnership as title sponsor of the event.
“The energy on Run Day was truly inspiring, filled with determination, hope and a shared sense of purpose,” said Richard Jardim, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice-President, Technology at CIBC, and co-executive sponsor of the Run. “The commitment from Team CIBC is making a real impact in changing the future of those diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Since partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) nearly three decades ago, CIBC’s involvement has helped raise more than $67.6 million toward breast cancer research, treatment, and education.
A Legacy of Hope and Progress
The impact of these funds is visible: since the mid-1980s, the breast cancer death rate in Canada has been cut nearly in half due to improved awareness, earlier detection, and advancements in treatment—progress made possible through ongoing research and community support.
“This year’s incredible turnout is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community,” said Anna Goncalves, Senior Vice-President, HR Advisory, Workforce Transformation & Leadership, CIBC. “The end of the Run is just the beginning of our collective impact.”
Continuing the Momentum
Until October 31, supporters can still make a difference by sharing a message of hope through CIBC Foundation. For every message sent, CIBC Foundation will donate $10 to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“The impact of CIBC’s support goes far beyond Run Day,” added Laurie Benner, Vice President, Signature Programs at the Canadian Cancer Society. “These funds power breakthroughs in research, improve care, and provide hope to the millions of Canadians affected by breast cancer.”
Funds raised through the Run support prevention, detection, and treatment research, while also funding programs that provide evidence-based information, transportation, lodging, and peer support for individuals and families facing cancer.
