City Council appoints Joe Mihevc as Councillor for Ward 10 – Spadina-Fort York and Robin Buxton Potts for Ward 13

Today, Toronto City Council appointed Joe Mihevc as Councillor for Ward 10 – Spadina-Fort York and Robin Buxton Potts for Ward 13 – Toronto Centre. The appointments are effective immediately upon taking the declaration of office and until the current term of Council expires on Monday, November 14.

At its meeting in May, Council declared the seats vacant and approved the process to fill the vacancies by appointment. By law, Council must fill vacancies when it is greater than 90 days until the next municipal election, which is Monday, October 24 this year. As well, by-elections are not permitted after March 31 in an election year.

A total of 27 candidates participated in the appointment process. The appointment process involved candidates indicating their interest by submitting an application. Eligible candidates were required to complete a Declaration of Qualification and Consent of Nominee form and provide identification showing their name, signature and qualifying Toronto address. Each candidate was given an opportunity to address Council and answer questions at today’s meeting. Applicants were also able to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by Council in support of their candidacy. Agenda materials and a video archive of today’s meeting are available on the City Clerk’s webpage: http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/decisionBodyProfile.do?function=doPrepare&decisionBodyId=1862#Meeting-2022.CC44.
