On Wednesday at council in Mississauga the first, second and third place winners of the 2022-2023 MiWay Student Ambassador Program were announced. Students took part in the hybrid program to help promote transit in their community.

2022-2023 Student Ambassador Winners:

  1. Winnie Tang and Emma Zimmermann, Loyola Catholic Secondary School
  2. Soha Siddiqui, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Secondary School
  3. Khyati Eda, John Fraser Secondary School (former 2nd place winner in 2020-2021)

What an ambassador does

Students participate by doing activities throughout the school year, such as:

  • Helping educate students about the benefits of taking public transit
  • Attending online and in-person meetings with their peers
  • Creating and sharing social media content about MiWay

The MiWay Student Ambassador Program provides an opportunity for high school students in Mississauga to build leadership, communication and team collaboration skills in addition to earning volunteer hours and rewards.

As the first place winners, Winnie and Emma will each receive free transit on MiWay for a year.

“Each year we are encouraged by the students’ new creative ideas and enthusiasm when promoting MiWay to their peers,” said Geoff Marinoff, Director, MiWay. “We thank all of the students who participated in the program and congratulate all of the winners on their achievements.”

Who can apply

To apply, individuals must be registered secondary school students at either a Mississauga Peel District Secondary School or a Mississauga Dufferin-Peel Catholic District Secondary School. Students can apply as individuals or as a team of two (pairs must attend the same school), and only one individual or team is chosen from each school. Applications for the 2023-2024 program, starting this fall, close June 9, 2023.
