City of Toronto opens 5,000 new vaccination appointments as eligibility opens to those age 40 and older tomorrow

Starting tomorrow at 8 a.m., everyone ages 40 to 49 will be eligible to book a vaccination appointment at a City of Toronto immunization clinic. The new cohort joins those with at-risk health conditions and people who cannot work from home that are in Group Two of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination plan, who became eligible to book appointments yesterday.

In addition, 5,000 new appointments between May 17 and 23 at City-operated immunization clinics will be added in the provincial booking system tomorrow to meet some of the demand from this expanded eligibility and based on available vaccine supply. More than 20,000 appointments also remain open for the week of June 7.

Appointments can be booked by eligible residents through the dark blue “Book a Vaccine” button on www.toronto.ca/covid-19 or by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900. As of tomorrow, eligible groups include:
•       People age 18 or older living in any of the 53 provincial hot spot postal codes: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-protect-yourself-others/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/?accordion=mobile-immunization-clinics-hot-spot-postal-codes
•       People age 40 or older
•       First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals
•       People who are pregnant
•       People with at-risk (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios-covid-19-vaccination-plan#at-risk), high-risk (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios-covid-19-vaccination-plan#high-risk) and highest-risk health conditions (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios-covid-19-vaccination-plan#highest-risk)
•       Employees unable to work from home listed by the Province as Group One (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios-covid-19-vaccination-plan#group-1) and Group Two (https://covid-19.ontario.ca/ontarios-covid-19-vaccination-plan#group-2)

City-run clinics are part of the Team Toronto vaccination network that includes hundreds of clinics operated by hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare and community partners. There are 841 new cases of COVID-19 in Toronto today. Since the start of the pandemic there have been a total of 158,702 cases of COVID-19. There are 1,081 people hospitalized. To date, there have been 3,224 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. In total, 145,155 people have recovered.
