City of Toronto update on COVID-19

COVID-19 Update

The City of Toronto continues to respond to COVID-19. This Mother’s Day weekend, everyone is urged to do their part: stay home and follow public health guidance to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

All people are asked to find creative virtual ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this year as the Province of Ontario Stay-at-Home order remains in effect, prohibiting indoor and outdoor gatherings. Everyone is urged to remain close to home and not travel to celebrate in-person with family. While outside of home for essential reasons, keep careful distance from people from other households – including family – and wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing may not be possible, even outdoors.

Due to a technical issue with the provincial laboratory data feed, today’s COVID-19 case counts are likely underreported. Toronto Public Health is reporting 724 new cases of COVID-19 in Toronto today. Since the start of the pandemic there have been a total of 154,799 cases of COVID-19 in the city. There are 1,140 people hospitalized. To date, there have been 3,163 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. In total, 140,103 people have recovered. Case status data can be found on the Toronto Public Health’s reporting dashboard: www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-latest-city-of-toronto-news/covid-19-status-of-cases-in-toronto/.

For the current wave of COVID-19 in Toronto, amplified by variants of concern, staying home and following public health guidance is the best way to keep everyone safe.
