Construction Progress

With all the mining and tunneling that took place last year, it’s clear why 2017 was dubbed “Year of the Dig.” As we get further into 2018, construction for the Eglinton Crosstown will start to come together in certain areas. With road-work beginning for the surface portion of the line, continued work below the ground and nearing the end of the Maintenance and Storage Facility, there’s no doubt that there is a lot going on along Eglinton!

It is exciting to see more and more progress is being made each day on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. However, with construction progress comes some disruption, and we anticipate further disruptions as we commence construction on the surface portion of the line. As always, we will continue to notify the community whenever new work is coming up. Continue to follow us on Twitter and check out our website for updates on construction. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach out to our staff at our community offices.

With more building comes more progress, and we expect to see some very big and exciting milestones this year!

Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to build the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Allen Road South Closure for Utility Work at Cedarvale Station (March 17-18)

To accommodate upcoming shoring activities for the new Cedarvale LRT station, crews will be relocating a sewer main across Allen Road South. The work will involve trenching for and installing a new sewer main, and removing the existing one. In order to safely carry out the work and mitigate impacts to traffic, Allen Road South will close south of Lawrence Avenue for the duration of the work. The work is expected to take place on March 17 and 18, with rain dates of March 24 and 25. For more information about this work, please read the construction notice on the website.

Traffic will be extra heavy at peak periods during the Eglinton Crosstown construction. Travel delays are expected. Please allow extra time for your journey.

Weekend Closure of Eglinton Avenue West between Black Creek Drive and Weston Road (March 24-25)

In order to facilitate the construction of the new CP Bridge structure on Eglinton Avenue West between Weston Road and Black Creek Drive, crews will be working on the bridge for partial removals of the existing structures, such as hand railing, Bell 360 fibre infrastructure and concrete sidewalk. For safety reason, this work will require the closure of Eglinton Avenue West from Black Creek Drive to Weston Road during the weekend of March 24 and 25. For more information about this work, please read the construction notice on the website.

Battery Energy Storage Facility Announcement

On February 15, an announcement was made at the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) where Metrolinx and the MPP’s office announced that Toronto Hydro-Electrical System Limited (THESL) has selected RES Canada to design and build the Back Up Battery Energy Storage Facility, which will be located at the site of Mount Dennis Station and the maintenance and storage facility.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation, MPP Arthur Potts. Speakers also included MPP Laura Albanese, Councillors Frances Nunziata and Frank Di Giorgio, Gerry Chaput (Metrolinx), and Jack Simpson (THESL). Over 50 people attended the announcement, including people from THESL, RES, members of the Mount Dennis Community Association, and staff and students from LEF.

The Next Phase Begins

While much of the work on the Eglinton Crosstown to this point has been building tunnels and stations for the underground portion, there is another nine kilometre stretch to the east that is about to start taking shape. Early work began in 2017, but now’s the time for this part of the project to come to life.
