Consultation session on St. Lawrence Market’s hours of operation

The City of Toronto is reviewing operating hours of the main building (South Market building) of the St. Lawrence Market. The review, which includes obtaining input from market merchants, the general public and other stakeholders, is intended to ensure optimal operating hours.

A public consultation session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the temporary market at 125 The Esplanade (immediately south of the main market building). The temporary market structure on The Esplanade is the site of the weekly Saturday farmers’ market while construction is underway to replace the former north market building on the north side of Front Street.

Those who intend to take part in Wednesday’s consultation event are encouraged to register in advance (optional) through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/public-consultation-st-lawrence-market-hours-of-operation-tickets-73330340021.

People can also provide input/opinions on the market’s operating hours by emailing stlawrencemarket@toronto.ca or can call the St. Lawrence Market Administration Office at 416-392-7120. Dropping by at 105 The Esplanade is another option.

The South Market currently operates five days a week, Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s closed Sundays and Mondays.

It’s my hope that all residents and visitors to Toronto can enjoy the market, and I’m glad this review is looking at optimizing the hours of operation to give everyone even more opportunity to experience this gem in the heart of our great city.”
– Mayor John Tory

“The St. Lawrence Market is an important community hub of our ward as well as for all of downtown Toronto and the immediate St. Lawrence Market community.
