The new Costco Wholesale warehouse in Newmarket officially opened its doors on August 20, 2025, at 107 Harry Walker Parkway South. The 166,000-square-foot facility replaces the former Yonge Street location after nearly 23 years of service.

NEWMARKET, ON – Costco Wholesale cut the ribbon on its brand-new, larger warehouse at 107 Harry Walker Parkway South, just west of Highway 404 near Davis Drive, officially opening its doors to members on Thursday. This marks the relocation and expansion of the former 23-year-old Yonge Street location, which has now closed and is being converted into the East Gwillimbury Costco Business Centre, set to launch later this year.

Local Buzz and Grand Opening Celebrations

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Newmarket Mayor John Taylor took place, signalling a major moment in the town’s retail scene.

“Many Newmarket residents have been excited about the new, highly anticipated, full-service Costco in Newmarket,” said Newmarket Mayor John Taylor.

Early arriving members encountered impressive crowds, lines, and notable enthusiasm from shoppers — one Reddit user on r/CostcoCanada recounted their first Costco opening as “chaotic but a great time,” with others estimating nearly 4,000 customers within just the first hour. Community excitement is clearly high as shoppers flocked to explore the new warehouse and its amenities.

What’s Inside: Space, Services, and Specialties

Costco’s first sushi department in the GTA debuts inside the new Newmarket warehouse. The fresh sushi bar is only the third of its kind in Canada, joining an expanded lineup of specialty departments.

At over 166,000 square feet, the Newmarket warehouse now boasts a modern, spacious layout featuring wide aisles, 1,300+ shopping carts, and 1,000+ parking spaces. Shoppers can enjoy a range of enhanced services:

  • Fresh sushi bar (1st in the GTA and 3rd in Canada)

  • On-site bakery, rotisserie chicken, and expanded produce

  • Service deli, fresh meat department

  • Hearing aid centre, optical services, five tire service bays

  • Large food court, 24-pump gas station

  • Standard Costco staples: over 3,200 items, including beer, wine, and RTD beverages.

Opening week promotions included perks like $400 off an LG 86-inch 4K TV and $35 off AAA whole beef tenderloin, drawing eager crowds.

Jobs, Growth & Community Impact

This relocation has resulted in approximately 70 new permanent jobs, supplementing the 450 existing employees transferred from the old location. According to Gino Dorico, SVP and Country Manager of Costco Canada, the new warehouse allows the retailer to continue serving current members while attracting new customers and local businesses.

Mayor John Taylor praised the move, emphasizing how the new full-service warehouse supports job creation and economic investment in Newmarket and its surrounding areas.

“The new warehouse has created hundreds of local jobs and valuable employment opportunities for Newmarket and the surrounding area. We welcome the investment in our community!”

Strategic Expansion in Context

This opening aligns with Costco’s broader “in-fill” strategy — launching new locations near existing, high-volume sites to relieve pressure, improve accessibility, and enhance customer experience. The Newmarket warehouse also contributes to a wave of August openings across North America, including another location in Rimouski, Québec.
