Construction Works at Science Centre Station and At-Grade Western Alignment (Sunnybrook Park, Aga Khan Park & Museum, and Wynford Stops)
Work progresses for station construction in the area of Eglinton Avenue East between Brentcliffe Road and Wynford Dr. Here is an overview of current and ongoing works:
Continued works at Don Mills spring-summer 2017: Earlier this month, the traffic and pedestrian set-up was reconfigured at the intersection for the next stage of Science Centre Station construction. The westbound and southbound bus stops were also relocated to the northwest side of the intersection.
Hydro ductbank connections continues: Hydro infrastructure work is ongoing at the intersection of Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East and will continue for approximately six weeks. Lane reductions will continue intermittently and between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Support of excavation within the Brentcliffe portal: Last month, crews began support of excavation work, also known as shoring for the Brentcliffe Portal. Steel piles, as well as braces and tie-backs will be installed around the perimeter of the portal entrances to support excavation. Shoring will be conducted in phases and the first phase will take approximately twelve (12) weeks to complete. The entire shoring process will take approximately twenty-four (24) months to complete.
When Prajwal Amatya moved to Canada from Nepal in early 2016, he was faced with a common challenge for recent immigrants; an inability to secure employment despite a wealth of professional experience as CAD/Drafter.
In an effort to improve his chances of finding a job, Prajwal enrolled in the Toronto District School Board’s Canadian Experience program at the Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre. The Canadian Experience program is designed to help integrate professional immigrants into the Canadian workforce.
“I heard about the Learning Centre from a friend, so I enrolled,” said Prajwal. “I got a lot of Canadian work experience there and got to know the Canadian work culture – they were very good to me.”
Metrolinx and its constructor, Crosslinx Transit Solutions has partnerships with a variety of employment agencies and training centres across the City, including the Learning Centre. When Prajwal was ready to begin a co-op placement in his field, he was connected to Crosslinx and was brought onto the project in a co-op position. Following the successful completion of his co-op term, Prajwal was hired on permanently as a CAD/Drafter.
It’s because of the community benefits program created for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project and through our partnership with community organizations like the Learning Centre that Pajwal was able to secure work in his trained field of work.
