Today’s special feature is on Formula 1’s racing points system.  At the end of every F1 race, points are given to the top ten drivers. When you think of points in this sport, you think of sponsorship and funds in a monetary value.

Racing points are a vital part of the sport, as is winning the championship for the drivers and the Constructors.

Let’s talk about the extra point given for the fastest lap. (1 Pts.)  Think strategy when you think of this one lonely point, but make no mistake this is a crucial point and it played well into the last race of last season between Verstappen and Lewis.

Again, the top ten drivers receive (Pts) and the points are accumulated by the top ten Constructors (teams) championship standing.

Points are a reward as follows based on position;

  • P1 = 25 Pts
  • P2 = 18 Pts
  • P3 = 15 Pts
  • P4 = 12 Pts
  • P5 = 10 Pts
  • P6 = 8 Pts
  • P7 = 6 Pts
  • P8 = 4 pts
  • P9 = 2 Pts
  • P10. = 1pt

That’s it for now, enjoy the rest of the season and look out for our special F1 Features every Wednesday.
