FIFA World Cup 2026 Ticket Demand Surpasses 150 Million Requests

TORONTO – The FIFA World Cup 2026 is already rewriting the record books months before kickoff, with ticket demand reaching unprecedented levels during the ongoing Random Selection Draw phase.

FIFA confirmed that more than 150 million ticket requests have been submitted by fans from over 200 countries, making this the highest demand ever recorded for a FIFA World Cup. The current figures place the tournament more than 30 times oversubscribed, based on verified individual credit card submissions.

To put the scale into perspective, the demand is 3.4 times greater than the total number of spectators who have attended all 964 matches across the previous 22 FIFA World Cup tournaments combined since 1930.

Global demand reflects historic scale of 2026 tournament

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the early response highlights the global anticipation surrounding the first World Cup jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

“The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be the greatest and most inclusive show on the planet,” Infantino said. “With more than 150 million tickets already requested in only the first 15 days, this edition is 30 times oversubscribed — a true showcase of incredible demand from fans from over 200 countries.”

He added that the tournament will “bring the world together like never before in a celebration of unity and the best of football.”

Expanded format and extended tournament window

The 2026 World Cup will run from Thursday, June 11 to Sunday, July 19, 2026, spanning 39 days and featuring a newly expanded 48-team format. A total of 104 matches will be played across 16 host cities in the three host nations.

Toronto is among the Canadian host cities, with matches scheduled to take place at BMO Field, positioning the GTA as a key hub for the world’s largest sporting event.

Ticket draw remains open until January 13

The current Random Selection Draw phase remains open until Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. ET. FIFA emphasized that the timing of a ticket request does not affect a fan’s chances of success, as all applications are treated equally once the window closes.

Fans who are unsuccessful in this phase will have additional opportunities in later ticket sales phases as more inventory becomes available. Ticket prices will remain unchanged throughout the current phase.

New supporter pricing and premium options

FIFA has also introduced a Supporter Entry Tier, offering tickets at a fixed price of USD $60 for all 104 matches, including the final. The initiative is designed to improve affordability and accessibility for fans following their national teams.

Eligible supporters may also apply for Participating Member Association (PMA) Supporter tickets, subject to criteria set by their national football associations.

For fans seeking premium experiences, official hospitality packages are available through On Location, FIFA’s official hospitality partner. These packages include match tickets and exclusive matchday amenities. All-inclusive travel options, including flights and accommodation, are also available through Qatar Airways.

Revenue reinvestment into global football

As a not-for-profit organization, FIFA stated that more than 90 per cent of its budgeted investments for the 2023–2026 cycle will be reinvested into the development of men’s, women’s, and youth football across its 211 Member Associations.

With record-breaking demand already locked in, FIFA World Cup 2026 is on track to become the most attended and globally followed sporting event in history — with Toronto and the GTA set to be part of the spectacle.
