Incident Overview

Hamilton Police were called to the 77 Governors Road area on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located 25-year-old Zachary Shuman, of Dundas, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A grey Dodge Ram linked to the victim was discovered nearby. Witnesses reported a blue Ford Edge fleeing the area moments after the shooting.


Police Investigation

Authorities believe there was a brief interaction between the two vehicles in the Metro parking lot at 15 Governors Road just before the incident occurred.

Hamilton Police initially sought information from a woman seen in the area who may have witnessed the events unfold. On July 29, investigators confirmed that the witness had come forward to assist with the investigation.

Detectives are asking residents and businesses to review CCTV or dashcam footage recorded between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. in the vicinity of the shooting.

This killing marks Hamilton’s 8th homicide of 2025, adding to mounting concerns over escalating gun violence in the region. Community members have expressed fear over the incident, as the shooting took place in broad daylight near a busy public space.
