SASKATOON – The Brampton Honey Badgers closed out their 2025 CEBL season Sunday night with a 96–85 loss to the Saskatchewan Rattlers at SaskTel Centre. For both clubs, the season fell short of expectations, with neither qualifying for the playoffs. The finale offered a chance for younger players to gain valuable minutes and experience before the offseason.
Season Ends Without Playoffs
Brampton’s 92–60 loss to the Winnipeg Sea Bears earlier in the week — their largest defeat of the year — had officially ended their postseason hopes. It marked the second straight year the Honey Badgers have missed the playoffs, following last year’s play-in loss to Scarborough.
With veterans David Muenkat, Bryson Williams, Ali Sow, and Koby McEwen now signed to overseas contracts in Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Portugal respectively, Head Coach Sheldon Cassimy turned to younger players like Mike Demagus and Ankit Choudhary to step into bigger roles.
Sunday’s Finale in Saskatchewan
Brampton fought hard but couldn’t overcome Saskatchewan’s balanced attack. The Rattlers had five players score in double figures, led by Devonté Bandoo with 22 points and Jaden Bediako posting a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double. Saskatchewan dominated the glass 47–34 and shot an efficient 90% from the free-throw line (19-for-21).
For the Honey Badgers, Choudhary led with 17 points, while Yaw Obeng-Mensah added 16 points and five rebounds. Demagus contributed 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists, and Prince Oduro had 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Brampton shot a respectable 47% from the field but struggled from the line, going just 11-for-22 (50%).
Last Meeting: Brampton Edged Saskatchewan
When the two sides met earlier this season, Brampton eked out an 88–86 win behind a monster game from Muenkat (20 points, 14 rebounds) and a versatile line from Quinndary Weatherspoon (15 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, two steals). That game was won in the paint and from the perimeter, but the same formula proved harder to execute in the season finale.
Final Stakes and Offseason Outlook
The loss means Brampton secures the first overall pick in the upcoming CEBL draft, giving them a prime opportunity to retool the roster. For the Rattlers, the win ends their season on a high note, though their playoff drought now stands at three seasons.
