BRAMPTON — The Brampton Honey Badgers have added serious firepower ahead of the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season with the signing of 2022 NBA Champion Quinndary Weatherspoon, the team announced Tuesday.

A former second-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs in 2019, Weatherspoon brings NBA championship experience, elite scoring ability, and a reputation as a hard-nosed two-way guard to a Brampton roster looking to contend this summer.

“Weatherspoon is an extremely skilled scoring point guard with the ability to create havoc on the defensive end,” said Honey Badgers GM Jermaine Anderson. “He’ll add leadership, professionalism, and toughness to our team.”

Weatherspoon’s resume includes stops in the NBA with the Spurs and Warriors, a standout 2024–25 season with the Qingdao Eagles of China’s CBA — where he led the team in nearly every offensive category — and a strong run in the NBA G League that earned him a spot in the 2024 Next Up Game at All-Star Weekend.

Last season in China, he averaged 26.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game, racking up 12 double-doubles and five triple-doubles. He was named CBA Player of the Week on April 1 and ended the year as Qingdao’s statistical leader in points, assists, and steals.

Now entering his first CEBL season, the 6-foot-3 Mississippi native is expected to be a focal point for Brampton, which opens its campaign on May 18 in Montreal. The team follows that with a May 21 game in Ottawa before returning to the CAA Centre on May 24 to host the Scarborough Shooting Stars.

The Honey Badgers’ roster now features 11 players, including recent addition and Laurier great Ali Sow. Weatherspoon becomes Brampton’s first international import this season.
