Rabbit adoption fees waived at HSOMH during Adopt a Rabbit Month
Oakville, ON — February is Adopt a Rabbit Month, and the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton (HSOMH) is making it even easier for rabbits to find loving homes by waiving all rabbit adoption fees for the entire month.
The initiative aims to highlight rabbits as rewarding companion animals while helping more of them transition from shelter care into permanent, committed homes across Oakville, Milton, and Halton.
HSOMH currently cares for rabbits of all ages and temperaments, from energetic young bunnies to calm, gentle adults, each with distinct personalities and care needs. While adoption fees are waived, the organization stresses that the adoption process remains thoughtful and thorough, ensuring the right fit for both the animal and the adopting family.
“Rabbits make wonderful companions, and February is the perfect time to welcome one into your home,” said Stephanie Aleksich, Director of Operations at HSOMH. “By waiving adoption fees, we hope to help more rabbits find loving homes while ensuring the adoption process remains thoughtful and thorough.”
Meet Some of the Rabbits Hoping to Find Homes
Among the rabbits currently available for adoption are:
Murphy
A gentle and inquisitive rabbit who enjoys exploring at her own pace. Murphy is curious, calm, and especially fond of fresh greens. She’s best suited for patient adopters who are comfortable letting her take the lead as trust builds.
Espoir
Whose name means hope, Espoir is a shy, soft-hearted rabbit who thrives in quiet environments. He may take time to feel secure, but with consistency and kindness, his sweet nature emerges. Espoir prefers slow, respectful interactions and does best with rabbit-savvy adopters.
Harvest
A young rabbit with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Harvest loves enrichment, toys, and snacks, and would benefit from adopters ready to provide playtime and stimulation to keep his curious mind engaged.
How to Adopt
Rabbits can be viewed in person at the HSOMH shelter during visiting hours, or online at hsomh.ca/smallanimals. While adoption fees are waived, standard screening and education requirements remain in place to promote responsible pet ownership and long-term success.
Since 1936, HSOMH has served as a vital community resource, providing shelter, education, and outreach programs that strengthen the human-animal bond across Halton Region.
