Oakville, ON — The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton (HSOMH) has received a transformative $10 million donation from philanthropist and longtime supporter Klaus Bytzek, marking the largest single gift in the organization’s history.

HSOMH officials say the landmark contribution will support animal care, community services, and long-term growth across Oakville, Milton, and Halton for generations to come.

Klaus Bytzek has supported the organization for many years, and this unprecedented donation represents a major vote of confidence in HSOMH’s mission to protect animals and strengthen the human–animal bond throughout the region.

“This is an extraordinary gift from a truly remarkable philanthropist,” said Jeff Vallentin, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton. “Mr. Bytzek’s compassion for animals is evident in his actions, and he has shared his hope that this generosity will inspire many others to give. We are deeply grateful for the difference this will make, both now and in the future.”

Supporting a New Animal Care Facility

The donation comes at a pivotal moment for HSOMH as the organization plans its next chapter. The shelter has sold its current property to the Town of Oakville and is actively developing plans for a new, modern animal centre designed to meet the growing needs of the region.

According to HSOMH, the future facility will allow the organization to care for more animals, serve more families, and deliver enhanced programs and services in a purpose-built space designed for modern animal welfare standards.

Bytzek’s gift provides lead funding toward realizing that vision.

“Even as this gift helps us build for the future, it is already at work supporting the animals in our care today,” Vallentin said. “It ensures they receive the compassion, treatment, and comfort they need while we bring the new shelter to life.”

A Long-Term Impact on Animal Welfare

HSOMH says the donation will strengthen its long-term sustainability while ensuring continued support for animals and families during the transition to a new facility.

“It is a powerful vote of confidence in our mission,” Vallentin added. “Mr. Bytzek’s generosity brings us significantly closer to realizing a new shelter and ensures a bright future for the animals and families who rely on us.”

The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton has served the region since 1936, providing shelter, animal services, education, and outreach to promote responsible pet ownership and animal well-being.
