TORONTO, March 8, 2018 /CNW/ – The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)/Toronto has chosen Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri as Communicator of the Year (COTY) for 2017. Mr. Ujiri was selected by unanimous decision by a panel of five senior communicators.

Considered one of the most proactive executives in the NBA, Mr. Ujiri is an authentic communicator who has enhanced the impact of the Raptors brand on a global scale. He speaks to fans both directly and through the media, works to inspire youth in Canada and in Africa, and tackles potentially difficult subjects directly, including racism and the role of women in professional sports.

Mr. Ujiri’s communications leadership stands out in the world of sports. He understands the role of communication in articulating his organization’s responsibility to the community and society.

“I care really deeply about our team and our city, and while talking about the Raptors and Toronto is part of my job, it’s also a tremendous pleasure, and that makes it easy,” Mr. Ujiri said. “Being recognized as a great communicator is a huge honour, and I’m very appreciative.”
